Signs Someone May Be Struggling
A person may be struggling if they:
- Withdraw from others
- Seem unusually irritable or discouraged
- Express hopelessness or feeling overwhelmed
- Show noticeable changes in mood or behavior
- Stop engaging the way they normally would
If something feels off, trust your instincts and check in.
How to Support a Peer
You do not need to have the perfect words. You simply need to care enough to reach out.
Helpful ways to support someone:
- Ask how they are really doing
- Listen without judgment
- Stay present
- Encourage them to seek additional help
- Follow up later
Simple phrases that can help:
- “I’m here for you.”
- “You do not have to carry this alone.”
- “I’m glad you told me.”
- “How can I support you right now?”
Confidentiality & Care
We understand that privacy is important. Anyone seeking support deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and discretion.
Our hope is to foster a culture where people feel safe asking for help and supported when they do.
At NCFRAP, we are more than a professional organization – we are a community.
In honor of Chris Johnson, we commit to checking in, speaking up, listening well, and making support easier to find.
Take care of yourself. Take care of each other.
